DR. McCLAIN

  •       Recently, Ms. Teresa Hagy has been recognized by U.S.C Inc. for demonstrating brilliance, excellence and dedication to elementary education.

  •  

  •      At a young age Teresa Hagy knew she wanted to become an elementary school teacher. In 1972 she pursued such dream and attended Virginia Intermont College with a Bachelors in Elementary Education. Upon completion, Teresa Hagy was accepted to the University of Virginia and in 1976 she received her Masters in Elementary Education.

  •     Currently, Teresa Hagy is a first grade educator, at the Washington-Lee Elementary School of Bristol Virginia Public Schools. Ms. Hagy holds over three decades of experience in the education field.  Her extensive experience in elementary education has given her the ability to motivate her students to enjoy both, their learning environment and the learning process. She is well known for her abilities to reach students and assist them in achieving their academic goals.

  •      Her hard work and dedication has not gone unnoticed and she has received several awards. In 1975, she was awarded the Outstanding Elementary Teacher of the Year Award. Then, she went on to develop reading skill tests, to aid scholastic progression, departmentally. In 1994, she was the recipient of the Southwest Reading Council’s Outstanding Reading Teacher Award. Ms. Hagy is also affiliated with several organizations including, Delta Kappa Gamma, the National Education Association, Virginia State Reading Association, the International Reading Association, the National Trust for Historic Preservation. In her spare time she enjoys teaching Sunday school to both 3rd and 4th grade students and actively participating as song leader and choir member. She is also a Librarian, and severs as a Chairman of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, and a Chairman of the Ladies’ Circle
